This U-Boat has a large face that will not only please your own eyes but the eyes of anyone passing by.  Look at the back and you will see a clear window into the soul of the watch and its inner workings.  The strap is made from genuine calf leather and fits well with the color scheme of the piece. This past weekend I was browsing through the fine selection of clothes at an Express store in my local mall and happened to pass by the small display of designer watches they had inside.  Each watch was Express branded either by the word or the lion that has seen more recent use as their brand logo.  One watch caught my eye in particular: it was a black watch with a black band and a large black face.  The dials were metallic, as were the hands.  There was a nice, small metallic lion embedded just above the center of the face.  I saw the price below it and thought, “This is well within my price range.”  Then I look more closely at the watch and saw the band was not metal but a leather strap.  It looked nice but I am not interested in non-metallic straps on watches.  If it had a black steel band I would have bought it right then and there.  Unfortunately, I had to walk out of there without my prize.

Cool watches like these are hard to find as such reasonable prices.  Hopefully the next time I swing by, there will be a watch just right for me.

When it comes to really beautiful watches, I know what I like as soon as I see it. And as soon as I saw the Cartier Pasha watch for women, I fell in love with it. Especially in the awesome blue it comes in. This is, by no means, a cheap watch. The MSRP is about $17,000 and change, though The Watchery is currently selling it at a discount of about $14,000.

The band is lizard leather so it’s soft and contours to the wrist perfectly.  There’s a light blue sunburst affect on the dial and the strap itself has a sort of rainbow look to it in various light. The clasp on the band is 18 karat white gold. I am a sucker for white gold! It really is beautiful and I like the look of silver and white materials better than yellow gold. Besides, silver and blue play off each other very well and are quite beautiful in this design.

The numbers on the face are large and playful and the the markers for the hours are diamonds. You can’t get any classier than that. I’d love to have this piece on my wrist, though it’s a bit pricey for my tastes. Still, it’s a gorgeous piece!

Of course these Esq watches are great pieces but what makes them work so well in casual environments is that they have gone through ever conceivable effort to make them scratch resistant. This means I get to wear a sharp looking watch to the company golf outing and when a black tie event comes along I can wear the scratch free watch there as well.

Esq watches are a great balance of form and function. The sort of watch you could give your Dad for a big occasion or give your son expecting him to eventually “get it.” Mine rarely leaves my wrist and I would imagine your’s wouldn’t either.

From the time I was a young adolescent, I owned a Timex watch with a stainless steel clasp. I remember that the more sophisticated looking fastener made me feel like a sophisticated adult. As I grew older, my interest in watches expanded to include luxury watches by brand name designers, such as Michael Kors, but I maintained my loyalty to Timex as well.

I am petite and have a small wrist, so I like watches that do not overwhelm it. Although the most popular Michael Kors watches seem to be oversized, he does make watches with more moderately sized faces, such as the Michael Kors Chronograph Rose Gold Tone Steel Ladies Watch. As the name implies, the watch face, and stainless steel bracelet are both rose gold. The chronograph dial ensures that I always know the exact time, and the watch is water resistant up to 100 meters. I love the versatility of this watch; it is sport enough that I can wear it when I run errands without feeling overdressed, yet elegant enough that I can wear it as a pretty accessory when I go out to dinner at an upscale restaurant.

Like my fixation for knowing the time, my fondness for watches has not waned over the years. If anything, it has grown and matured to appreciate a variety of watch brands and styles. I guess I am not ready to abandon my addiction.

But I beg to differ. I love my watch, and there are many things it can do that an iPhone can’t.

One, a watch looks fabulous on my wrist. Yes, a watch is a fashion accessory, and it can make a real statement about your style and do wonders to an outfit. I’ve got gold and silver luxury watches for a special evening out, casual plastic chunky watches for weekend shopping, and everything in between.

Two, my watch allows me to tell the time instantly, because it’s always on my wrist. It’s awesome being in possession of the time like this. How many times have you fumbled around your bag or even your bag pocket looking for your iPhone, just so you can find out the goddamn time?

Three, when you wear a watch, you’re wearing a piece of history. Watches date back hundreds of years, but cell phones and iPhones have only sprung up in recent years. By wearing a watch, you show that you have style and flair, and you’re keeping a classic invention alive.

Patek Philippe has a long history and started when a Polish watchmaker by the name of Antoni Norbert Patek began making watches in 1839 in Geneva, along with a fellow Pole named Franciszek Czapek. The company might have been known as Patek and Czapek (kind of has a nice, symmetric ring to it, doesn’t it?) but the two separated in 1844, when Patek went on to partner with French watchmaker Adrien Philippe. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Hollywood star turned Governor of California, swears by Audemars Piguet, a Swiss luxury watch manufacturer founded in 1875. In recent years, the Austrian hulk has become synonymous with the brand, endorsing it wherever possible.
